The historian Elisabeth Joris left her mark on Swiss women’s historiography. In 1986, together with Heidi Witzig, she published «Frauengeschichte(n). Documents from two centuries on the situation of women in Switzerland» and thus became famous. Born in Visp in 1946, Joris belonged to a generation of women who were still denied access to grammar school. It took several detours before she was finally able to study history in 1970. Joris was active in the left-wing group «Kritisches Oberwallis» and became a staunch feminist in the mid-1970s.
Author and presenter Denise Schmid interviews Joris in Europaallee about her life between political protest, science and family.
