On 24 November 2024, the electorate voted on the EFAS proposal (uniform financing of outpatient and inpatient services in health insurance). Its adoption set a new course for the future of health insurance. After more than ten years of work, both in the health insurance associations and in both chambers of our parliament, the Swiss electorate voted in favour of this health reform.

The Yes vote means that from 2028, both outpatient and inpatient health insurance services will be financed in equal proportions by the insurers and the cantons. From 2032, nursing care will also be subject to this system. EFAS should be the key to ensuring that there are no more false incentives due to unequal funding in health insurance in the future.
